A US Senator is a person who represents a state in the US government. Each state has two senators and they are chosen by the people who live in that state. Senators serve for six years and are responsible for making laws that affect the entire country. An example would be Senator Kamala Harris from California. She is a senator from California and helps to make laws that affect all of the US. One fun fact is that the US Senate is the only elected legislative body in the world that is older than the United States itself. The Senate was first created in 1789, before the US was even a country.
