Religion is a set of beliefs and practices that people follow to relate to something larger than themselves, like a higher power or a set of values. Religion can include things like prayer, rituals, festivals, and special days. It can also include things like holy books, sacred places, and special objects. An example of a religion is Christianity, which is the largest religion in the world with over 2 billion followers. Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible. Christians believe in one God and that Jesus died for our sins and rose again to give us hope and a chance to have eternal life. Islam is another example of a religion. It is the second largest religion in the world with over 1 billion followers. Muslims believe in one God and follow the teachings of the Quran. They also believe in prayer, fasting, and giving to charity. An analogy for religion is a compass. A compass helps you find your way when you are lost and can’t see the path ahead. Religion can be like a compass in that it can help you find your way when life is confusing or hard. Fun Fact: The religion of Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest religions in the world, dating back to around 1200 BCE!
