Quantum Mechanics is the branch of physics that deals with the behavior of matter and energy at the atomic and subatomic level, and it’s so complicated that it makes your head spin! Basically, it’s the study of how particles interact and behave at the smallest scales. It’s essentially a set of rules that govern how tiny particles interact with each other and how they interact with light. It’s like a teeny, tiny version of Newtonian physics. For example, in Newtonian physics, you can predict how a ball will bounce off a wall. In Quantum Mechanics, you can predict the probability of a particle being somewhere at any given time. Yeah, it’s that abstract. Quantum Mechanics has allowed us to build things like lasers, which have revolutionized technology. It’s also responsible for the creation of transistors, which are the building blocks of modern computers and other devices. Fun fact: Quantum Mechanics has been used to create the world’s tiniest movie! It’s only 45 frames long and is made up of single atoms.
