quantum leap

A quantum leap is a major change or advancement that happens suddenly, often with amazing results. For example, when computers first came out, they were so big and slow that they were only used in scientific research. But then, within a few years, with the invention of the microchip, computers became smaller, faster, and able to do more. That was a quantum leap! Another example is when scientists discovered the structure of DNA, which is the blueprint for life. Knowing this allowed scientists to create new treatments for diseases and to even clone animals. This was an incredible quantum leap in science. An analogy for a quantum leap is a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. It starts off as a small wriggling creature, and then suddenly it turns into something beautiful with wings that can fly. Fun fact: Quantum leaps are named after the quantum mechanics field of study, which deals with the behavior of particles at the atomic and subatomic level.
