Photosynthesis is a process plants use to make energy from sunlight. In photosynthesis, plants use the energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars and oxygen. This oxygen is released into the air, and the sugars are used by the plant for food. Here’s an example that might help you understand: Let’s say you’re hungry and want a snack. You could take a piece of fruit from the fridge and eat it. The fruit contains all the energy the plant used to make it from the sun. That’s kind of like photosynthesis. Here’s a fun fact: It takes about six molecules of water to make one molecule of glucose for the plant to use for food!
