Ku klux klan
The Ku Klux Klan is a group of white supremacists who wear white hoods and robes and believe in the inferiority of people of color. They use fear and intimidation to achieve their aims and have a long history of violence and hate crimes against African Americans in particular. In the past, they’ve burned crosses, engaged in lynchings, and committed other acts of cruelty. They are a small group, with estimates ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 members, but their influence is still felt in many places throughout the US. To give you an example of their mentality, they once called Martin Luther King Jr. a “Communist-Jewish agitator” and a “notorious liar.” They also marched on the White House in 1925 with a banner reading “America for white Americans.” Fun fact: The Ku Klux Klan is the oldest hate group in the US and has been around since the mid-1800s!
