Desert formation
Desert formation is when a place becomes very dry and sandy, with very little water or plants. It happens when there is not enough rainfall to support a lot of vegetation. For example, the Sahara Desert in Africa is the largest hot desert in the world. It formed because of a lack of rain and high temperatures. Another example is the Atacama Desert in South America, which is one of the driest deserts in the world. Did you know that the Sahara Desert covers an area of over 3.6 million square miles? That’s about the same size as the United States! Imagine a desert like a big sandbox with no water or plants. It’s very hot during the day and very cold at night. This is because there are no trees or bushes to provide shade or hold onto heat. Desert formation happens slowly over time, as the land becomes more and more dry and barren. It’s important to take care of our environment to prevent more places from becoming deserts.
