A black hole is a region in space that has a lot of mass but is so small that its gravity pulls in anything that gets too close, even light! It’s like a giant vacuum cleaner that sucks in anything that gets too close. An example of a black hole is the one at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. This black hole is supermassive and has a mass that is 4 million times the mass of the sun! A fun fact is that black holes can spin really, really fast. Some can spin at almost half the speed of light! To help you understand a black hole, think of it like a hole in the ground. If you put your hand too close to the hole, the hole’s gravity will pull your hand in. That’s what black holes are like – anything that gets too close is pulled in by the black hole’s gravity.
