College graduation is the process of completing all of the educational requirements necessary to earn a degree from a college or university. To do this, students must complete courses, exams, internships, and research projects in order to meet the requirements of their chosen degree. Graduation is a milestone achievement, and is often celebrated with family, friends, and loved ones. An example of a college graduation would be a student who completes all the requirements of their degree program, such as completing a certain number of courses, earning a certain grade point average, and completing a capstone project or other research. They would then receive their diploma and celebrate their success with a graduation ceremony. College graduation rates in the United States have been steadily increasing over the past several decades. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the six-year graduation rate for students enrolled in four-year colleges and universities in the United States in 2019 was 68.2%. This was a significant increase from the 1960s, when the six-year graduation rate was just 40%. The process of college graduation can differ from school to school, but generally, the requirements are the same. For example, most schools will require at least 120 credits to earn a bachelor’s degree, sometimes more depending on the major. There are also often core courses that all students must take regardless of their major. Fun fact: The University of Cambridge in the UK is the oldest university in the world, having been founded in 1209.
